Background of the Study
In the digital age, media literacy has become a crucial skill in helping audiences navigate the complexities of news and information. In Gwagwalada Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the rapid growth of social media and digital news platforms has raised concerns about the public's ability to critically analyze news content. Media literacy equips audiences with the skills to distinguish between credible and unreliable information, interpret news sources, and understand the biases that may influence media coverage (Bello & Aliyu, 2023). This study explores the impact of media literacy on how audiences in Gwagwalada interpret news and its influence on their understanding of current events.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The increasing volume of news content, particularly on social media, has made it difficult for audiences in Gwagwalada to differentiate between credible news and misinformation. Although media literacy initiatives exist, their reach and impact remain limited.
